No doubt in my mind the producers and judges are keenly aware of Adam’s Star Power, and I don’t think Adam (or anyone) will be too big for the AI parties to handle. 19 is one of the top companies in the industry; they’ve been responsible for over 500 number one singles and 240 number one albums. Past and present clients include David and Victoria Beckham, Chris Daughtry, Annie Lennox, Claudia Schiffer, and of course Spice Girls; they’ve proven to be one of the best at being able to handle global demand. And of course Simon, his company Syco, and Sony/BMG are unparalleled (Universal Music Group is the biggest, but Sony/BMG is a strong number 2 of the Big 4 labels).
To quote Simon (and this is from a previous season, but would bet it still applies), “If I don’t find an international artist this year, then I will have failed. That is the one thing that interests me,” he says. “It is a personal thrill for me to play a role in giving the best young singers…a shot at realizing their dreams.” And that’s what the creative aspect of the show is all about, to create star recording artists… now in Season 8, like all of us they’ve learned and grown.
I still find it unusual to read so many posts suggesting people would be better off not winning; as the cliche goes, you’ve got to be in it to win it! But two other points: 1) As previously mentioned based upon public information and mainstream media reporting, the Producers have an option on all of the Finalists so it’s kind of moot; and 2) More importantly, anyone who wouldn’t want to work with the most successful companies in the world wouldn’t be doing themselves any favors. Management/agencies and artists change often for a lot of different reasons… like marriages, they don’t always work and that’s just the business. You could look at any management or record company, and if you only focused on the relationships that didn’t work out, you’d never work!
Many people have mentioned they’re learning more about music and voice technique because of Adam and that’s great! Someone just pointed out voice pro Rosanne Simunovic, known as “MasterClassLady;” I searched and found her extremely detailed and thoughtful discussions of “vocal technique and vocal performance.” Of course she loves Adam, but has praise (and critiques) of all the Finalists. She’s doing excellent work. Re a comment asking if Adam is straining and/or hurting his voice, as it’s been pointed out he’s well trained…his “Come to Me, Bend to Me” track from Brigadoon is from 2004 and so far he’s having no problems it seems. And yes, moving the tongue out of the way leaves more room in the airway for a note.
For a visual example of the keyboard so you can see vocal ranges and where middle C and the other notes are, here’s a chart (this is just the middle of a standard piano):
Best, Michael
